BARWON FREEDOM from FLUORIDATION is a consumer and professional action group in the Geelong region, acting to end the unfair, undemocratic and unsafe practice of water fluoridation
Toxic fluoride entering our water now - is it making you sick?
Barwon Water, under orders from the Victorian Government's DHS, has proceeded against the will of the Geelong, Bellarine and Surf Coast communities to add fluorosilicic acid (fluoride) to the piped water supply. The poison additive allegedly commenced soon after June 22, for the alleged purpose of protecting the teeth of some children (most children had good teeth anyway, prior to fluoridation). Barwon Water is not publicizing what the level of fluoride is up to yet. It is probable that it will not be up to 1ppm (1 milligram per litre) till some weeks after June 22. BAFF may be able to report some independent lab tests here before too long.
If you or an associate or family member are genuinely 'fluoride sensitive', or hypersensitive to the toxicity of fluoridated water, a good guide to detecting their health reactions is the Dutch studies in the 1970s, outlined in Dr Hans Moolenburg's court affidavit click here or the book Fluoride Fatigue, by NZ doctor Bruce Spittle, available at Carmoora Clinic, 343 Moorabool Street. You need to do careful trial and error testing, on and off tap water, to determine this.
Citizens & Parliament misled on fluoride by Dr Carnie (Chief Health Officer):
Three very significant public documents from the latter part of 2009 condemn Dr John Carnie, Victoria's Chief Health Officer, for unprofessional conduct in misleading the Parliament and the community on water fluoridation:
12 Reasons to reject fluoridation!
For over 100 years, science and medicine have understood the poisonous nature of fluoride. In the 1930's and 40's, giant US companies, e.g. ALCOA, were sued for millions of dollars due to toxic fluoride waste belching from factory smokestacks killing crops and livestock. ALCOA's owners (Mellon) figured that if people could be persuaded fluoride isn't poisonous but is good for teeth, profits could be protected.
So, to introduce water fluoridation, they hired the brilliant 'father of propaganda' Edward L. Bernays. Joined later by other fluoride polluting industries (e.g. nuclear) and the multi-billion dollar sugar, toothpaste, confectionary and soft drink industries, they became strong financial supporters of dental associations that promoted fluoridation.
One such support group, the Dental Health Education & Research Foundation, was founded in Australia in 1962. DHERF's Governors, Members and donors have included key representatives from Coca-Cola, CSR, Kelloggs, Colgate-Palmolive, Wrigleys, Arnotts, Scanlens, Cadbury Schweppes, etc.
The Age report included an astonishing claim by an EPA director that while the fluoride is harmful to animals "the levels were safe for humans." In fact there appears to be no evidence for it being safe. It is parallel to the situation around Geelong where an Alcoa smelter and Shell oil refinery pump fluoride pollution into the air, and residents breathe it and eat it if they are home growing vegies and fruit trees. The risk is magnified if residents are consuming fluoridated tap water since it is the 'total intake from all sources' that causes fluoride poisoning or long term damage.
Maureen Minchin, Geelong resident, international consultant in infant feeding and lactation, and author of classic text "Breastfeeding Matters" has issued a renewed warning of the danger that fluoridated tap water poses for infants (August 2008).
Kangaroos crippled by fluoride at Portland and northern Melbourne suburbs. The Melbourne Age reported (21/2) a dramatic study showing that kangaroos living around several fluoride emitting industries are "pain-ridden" and suffering fluorosis, with "excessive bone growths, or lesions, on joints in the paws, ankles and calves."

Okay, okay ... so this might not be an 'official' health department warning, YET! But it is certainly the warning that should be issued by NSW Health, along with Dr John Carnie at the Victorian DHS and embattled Health Minister Daniel Andrews.
The above picture with the brown stains is 'moderate Dental Fluorosis', the tooth disorder caused by using fluoridated drinking water in childhood plus possible other sources of fluoride in the environment or diet.
REMEMBER - dental fluorosis is the tip of the iceberg, a biomarker indicating systemic fluoride poisoning on Dental Fluorosis at the FAN website.
Fluoridated water may damage the health of people with kidney disease, the USA National Kidney Foundation (NKF) now admits in its new position paper published in April 2008. Meanwhile, Kidney Health Australia and Dr John Carnie at the Victorian DHS are digging their heels in and pretending that the health danger does not exist.
The 2006 USA National Research Council review of toxicology of fluoride in drinking water presented some alarming conclusions about subgroups in the population who are more at risk from ingestion of fluoride, even at relatively low fluoride levels in water. One of these subgroups is kidney patients, those with stage 5, 4 or even less advanced stages of chronic kidney disease.
Fluoride & Bone - Skeletal Fluorosis:
Excessive exposure to fluoride causes an arthrtiic bone disease called skeletal fluorosis.
Skeletal fluorosis, especially in its early stages, is a difficult disease to diagnose, and can be readily confused with various forms of arthritis including osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
In the advanced stages, fluorosis can resemble a multitude of bone/joint diseases, including: osteosclerosis, renal osteodystrophy, DISH, spondylosis, steomalacia, osteoporosis, and secondary hyperparathyroidism.
The risk of developing fluorosis, and the course the disease will take, is influenced by the presence of certain predisposing factors, including impaired kidney function; dietary deficiencies; gastric acidity; and repetitive stress.
Research published in 2001 showed that fluoride (F) deposits in the pineal gland with age and is associated with enhanced gland calcification. Eleven aged cadavares were dissected and their pineal glands assayed: "There was a positive correlation between pineal F and pineal Ca (r = 0.73, p<0.02) but no correlation between pineal F and bone F. By old age, the pineal gland has readily accumulated F and its F/Ca ratio is higher than bone.Reference
Re: Dr Carnie claimed that fluoride consumed through fluoridation has virtually no side-effects for anyone, and that the study by Dr Elise Bassin (2006) linking the bone cancer osteosarcoma with fluoride consumpton, is of no concern for Victorian citizens.
Any reader of this website, or the USA's National Research Council (2006) report on 'fluoride in drinking water' is aware that these claims are ridiculous and fly in the face of the best available science.
Click here for the Parliamentary Committee transcript of 1st December 2009 in which Carnie made these unsupportable claims in reply to questions from Mr Peter Kavanagh former MLC for Western Victoria.xt
CHRONIC FLUORIDE TOXICITY SYNDROME
Four recent reviews, from the United States of America (1,2), Australia (3) and New Zealand (4), have concluded that claims that fluoride is an allergen could not be supported from studies undertaken to date, and that the weight of evidence shows that fluoride is unlikely to produce hypersensitivity and other immunological effects.
Thus although all four reports reached a similar conclusion that fluoride was unlikely to produce allergic or hypersensitivity effects, the 1993 reports (2,4) refer to those published in 1991 (1,3) and are not completely independent.
